They built a cart to put the ark in and pulled it by two cows who had not pulled the cart. God proved that the calamity was from God by letting the cows go straight to Israel.

He showed that when God is with us, the number of people is irrelevant to the victory or defeat of the war.

Recklessly condemning the sins of others is a form of pride. Because none of us can keep the law perfectly. Another arrogance is the belief that without God all of your plans will succeed. The book of James speaks precisely of these two prides. It is said that no man has the authority to condemn others, and only God is the judge. Also, since man is a finite being like the morning mist, the book of James says that when he does something, he should only ask God for His will and act.

At the Jerusalem council, they decided that they should not discriminate against the saved Gentiles according to the custom of Judaism. Rather than following the standards of God's Word, Peter acted according to the customs of Judaism. Other Jews followed Peter and joined in the wrong. When Paul saw this, he rebuked Peter.

Habakkuk's Thanksgiving[하박국의 감사]

The prophet Habakkuk asked God why He did not punish those who did evil in Judah. God answered him that he would punish Judah through Babylon. Habakkuk tells God that Judah is God's people, so why is He punishing Judah by bringing up a more evil Babylon? God tells him that Babylon's sins will also be judged, and that he will protect the holy children of God in any case to the end. Habakkuk hears God's promise that He will protect the righteous to the end, and glorifies Him with praise that he will exalt God in all circumstances.

God made it clear through Jeremiah that a people who refused to repent could not escape God`s judgment.

At God`s command, Moses stretched out his hand toward the Red Sea. A strong easterly wind blows through the middle of the sea, making a big road. Israel crossed the sea like land, and the Egyptian army was buried in the Red Sea.

천사들은 승천하신 예수님께서 다시 오실 것이라고 말했다. 성도들은 재림 약속의 말씀을 믿고 열심히 신앙생활 하였다. 하지만 그들 중에 재림이 늦어짐으로 인해 불신하는 사람들이 생겨났다. 베드로는 주님이 더디 오시는 것은 한 사람이라도 더 구원하시기 위한 하나님의 사랑 때문이라고 전한다. 주님은 그분이 정한 때가 차면 내일이라도 재림하실 것임을 믿는 재림을 기다리는 신부된 삶을 살아야 한다.

헤롯 아그립바는 유대인의 인기를 얻기 위해 야고보 사도를 죽이는 악을 행한다. 또 베드로 사도도 죽이기 위해 감옥에 가둔다. 하나님께서 감옥에 갇힌 베드로를 천사를 보내어서 탈출하게 함으로 그 계획이 무산된다. 이후 가이사랴에 간 헤롯은 큰 청중 앞에서 연설을 하게 된다. 헤롯의 연설을 들은 사람들은 그를 하나님처럼 높인다. 헤롯은 자신이 하나님이 된 것처럼 행동하다 천사가 보낸 충에 먹혀 죽임을 당하게 된다.

사울은 대제사장의 편지를 들고 다메섹에 있는 성도들을 잡아 오기 위해 다메섹으로 향한다.다메섹으로 가는 길에 나타나신 예수님을 구세주로 영접하고 회심하게 된다. 회심한 사울은 다메섹에서 예수님을 증거하는 일에 열심을 낸다. 유대인들은 사울이 성문을 통해 나가는 때에 죽이기로 정하고 성문을 지켜보고 있었다. 다메섹 성도들은 사울을 성벽에 난 구멍을 통해 예루살렘으로 가도록 돕는다. 예루살렘에서도 사울은 열심히 복음을 전하게 된다.

잠언에 기록된 부모공경에 대한 여러 교훈들과 경고들이 나옵니다. 부모님의 바른 가르침과 교훈을 따르는 자는 머리에 아름다운 관을 쓰고 목에 금 사슬을 걸게 된다고 하십니다. 신앙을 가진 자녀는 부모님의 신앙적 가르침과 교훈을 항상 마음판에 새깁니다. 어떤 일을 할 때에 그 가르침을 기억하여 행동하여야 합니다. 이런 자녀는 그가 하는 일마다 잘되는 복을 하나님께로부터 받게 됩니다.

이스라엘 백성들은 하나님만 믿고 따르겠다고 고백합니다. 하지만 가나안을 정탐한 12명이 돌아온 후 그 믿음은 무너져버렸습니다. 10명의 정탐꾼은 도무지 그 땅을 정복할 수 없다고 말합니다. 오직 여호수아와 갈렙만이 하나님께서 도우시면 정복할 수 있다고 고백합니다. 하나님께서는 불신앙을 가진 사람들 중 한 명도 가나안에 들어가지 못하게 벌하십니다. 믿음의 눈으로 바라본 여호수아와 갈렙만이 가나안을 허락 받았습니다.

니느웨성이 용서 받는 것을 본 요나는 하나님을 향해 화를 내고 원망한다. 하나님께서는 박넝쿨을 통해 요나를 교육하신다. 요나는 하룻밤에 났다가 사라진 박넝쿨을 아까워하며 하나님께 화를 낸다. 박넝쿨과 비교할 수 없는 니느웨성의 사람과 짐승을 아끼며 그들에게 용서를 베푼 사랑이 얼마나 정당한 것인지를 깨닫게 해 주신다.

하나님께서 사흘 밤낮을 회개한 요나를 바닷가에 통해내게 하신다. 다시 하나님의 명령을 받은 요나는 니느웨성이 40일 후에 심판을 받게 된다고 선포한다. 경고를 들은 니느웨성은 빈부귀천을 막론하고 하나님께 회개를 하게 된다. 하나님께서 그들의 회개를 받으시고 그 성을 향한 심판 계획을 거두시게 된다.

이스라엘의 선지자 요나에게 니느웨로 가서 심판을 경고하라고 하신다. 요나는 하나님의 눈을 피하여 다시스로 향하는 배를 타고 도망한다. 요나로 인해 바다에는 큰 풍랑이 일어난다. 그 일의 원인자로 제비 뽑힌 요나는 자신이 행한 잘못을 말한다. 요나의 요구를 따라 사람들은 요나를 바다에 던진 후 풍랑은 잔잔해 진다. 하나님께서는 큰 물고기를 보내 요나를 살려 주신다.

예수님께서 돌아가신 후 사흘째 되던 날 새벽에 부활하셨습니다. 예수님을 직접 만나 부활을 확인한 막달라 마리아는 제자들에게 부활의 소식을 전해준다. 제자들은 예수님의 부활을 믿지 않았다. 엠마오로 가던 두 제자가 돌아와서 부활 소식을 전했지만 그 때도 그들은 믿지 않았다. 예수님께서는 직접 그들을 찾아와 믿음 없음에 대하여 꾸지람 하신다. 그제서야 그들은 예수님의 부활을 믿게 된다.

예수님께서 3년 동안 함께 하였던 제자 가룟 유다의 배신으로 체포되셨다. 그리고 예수님을 죽이기로 계획하고 모인 공회에서 수모를 당하신다. 더 잔인한 방법으로 죽이기 위해 반역죄로 빌라도에게 고발한다. 빌라도는 예수님께 십자가 처형을 시킬 어떤 죄도 없다는 것을 알았다. 하지만 청중들의 급박에 못 이겨 십자가 처형을 허락한다. 예수님께서는 그 모든 과정에서 하나님의 뜻대로 온전히 이루시기에 힘을 다하셨다. 성경이 정한대로 인간 구원을 위한 고통의 길을 온전하게 감당해 주셨다.

예수님께서 과도한 율법주의에 빠져 안식일 정신을 잃어버린 사람들의 잘못을 깨우쳐 주셨다. 안식일의 주인이신 하나님께서 원하시는 것이 무엇인지 가르쳐 주셨다. 또 그들이 가진 교만의 마음을 결혼 잔치에서 일어나는 일상의 모습을 예를 들어 깨우쳐 주셨다. “자기를 높이는 자는 낮아지고 자기를 낮추는 자는 높아지리라”는 간결하면서도 강력한 메시지로 교만한 마음을 갖는 어리석음을 깨우쳐 주셨다.

다윗이 자리를 비운 사이에 시글락 성은 아말렉의 침공을 받았다. 성은 불타고 다윗을 따르는 부하들의 모든 가족들은 포로로 끌려갔다. 부하들은 다윗을 죽이려고까지 하여 다윗의 지도력은 큰 위기를 맞는다. 하지만 다윗은 그 위기의 순간에도 하나님께 먼저 기도하였다. 하나님께서 그 전쟁에 함께 하심으로 다윗은 승리하였다. 부하들간의 갈등도 신앙적으로 해결하여 더욱 견고한 지도자로 세워지게 된다.

중풍병에 걸린 친구가 고침받기 원하는 간절함으로 지붕을 뚫고 예수님앞에 내렸다. 예수님께서는 육신의 질병을 고치시기 전에 먼저 죄사함을 선포하신다. 문제를 느끼는 사람들에게 자신이 죄사함의 능력이 있음을 정확하게 알려 주신다. 그 후 중풍병자에게 걸어가라고 명하신다. 즉시 중풍병자는 일어나서 걸었고 사람들은 하나님께 영광을 돌렸다.

예수님께서 10명의 신부 들러리 비유를 해 주셨습니다. 여유 기름을 준비한 다섯명은 신랑과 함께 잔치에 들어갔습니다. 하지만 여유 기름을 준비하지 못한 5명은 신랑을 맞이하지 못했습니다. 이 말씀을 통해서 예수님을 기다리는 신부가 가져야 할 영적 자세가 어떤 것인지 알려 주셨습니다. 주님께서 언제 오셔도 맞아 들일 수 있는 준비된 삶을 살아야 함을 알게 합니다.

에수님께서 과부가 드린 두 렙돈을 많이 한 헌금이라고 하셨습니다. 액수로는 부자들이 많이 했습니다. 하지만 그들은 자신의 재산 중 극히 일부한 한것입니다. 그러나 과부는 자신이 가진 전 재산을 하나님께 드렸기 때문에 그 헌금이 가장 큰 것이라고 말씀하셨습니다. 헌금은 액수보다 더 중요한 것이 헌금을 드리는 사람의 중심임을 알게 합니다.

이스라엘에는 3대 절기가 있다. 첫 번째는 애굽에서 해방시켜주신 일을 기억하며 지키는 유월절이다. 두 번째는 보리 수확을 마친 후 하나님 은혜에 감사하며 지키는 칠칠절이다. 세 번째는 한 해의 농사가 끝난 후 곡식과 포도주를 주신 하나님께 감사하며 7일간 지키는 초막절이다. 신약시대에는 예수님 안에서 이 세 절기가 완성되었다. 그러므로 우리는 예수님께서 주신 구원에 늘 감사하며 성령님과 동행해야 한다.

히스기야 왕은 200년 동안 유월절을 제대로 지키지 않은 이스라엘 백성들에게 하나님의 명령인 유월절을 지켜야한다고 선포했다. 유월절을 지키면서 백성들이 율법을 어기는 일이 있었지만, 히스기야 왕의 기도를 들으신 하나님께서는 부족하지만 최선을 다하여 유월절을 지키려 한 히스기야 왕과 이스라엘 백성들의 마음을 받아주셨다.

어떤 나라의 왕이 만 달란트를 빚진 종을 용서해 주었지만, 탕감받은 그 종은 자신에게 백 데나리온 빚진 자를 옥에 가두었다. 예수님으로 인해 죄의 빚을 탕감 받은 우리는 내 주변 사람들을 용서해 주어야 한다.

이스라엘 백성들은 물이 없어 불평했고, 하나님께서는 반석에 명령하라고 모세에게 말씀하셨다. 하지만 화가 난 모세는 반석을 두 번 쳤고, 그로 인해 가나안 땅에 들어가지 못하게 되었다. 하나님의 말씀은 내 감정과 생각에 옳은 대로가 아니라 말씀하신 그대로 지켜야 한다.

하나님께서 요단강을 건넌 이스라엘 백성에게 할례를 행하라고 하셨다. 할례를 받았을 때 적들이 침입하면 죽을 수도 있지만, 여호수아는 하나님께서 지켜주실 것을 믿고 할례를 행했다. 이스라엘 백성들이 할례를 통해서 하나님과 온전한 관계를 가졌듯이 우리도 구별된 삶을 살 때에 하나님과 온전한 관계를 회복하게 된다.

바울은 루스드라에서 나면서부터 한 번도 걸어본 적 없던 사람을 예수님의 이름으로 일으켰다. 그 일 후에 바울을 싫어하는 유대인들이 바울을 향해 돌을 던졌고, 죽은 줄 알았던 바울은 기적적으로 깨어났다. 루스드라에서 기적을 일으키신 하나님은 우리에게도 기적을 베풀어주시는 분이시다.

아도니야는 하나님께서 세운 솔로몬 왕을 인정하지 못하고 미련을 가지고 잔꾀를 부렸다. 하지만 솔로몬은 그 의중을 정확하게 파악하고 그를 죽인다. 아도니야는 솔로몬을 왕으로 인정하지 않는 교만함으로 인하여 죽임을 당하고 말았다.

그리스도란 기름부음을 받은 자라는 뜻으로 예수님께서 가지신 직분을 나타내는 말이며, 성탄절은 예수님께서 그리스도로 이 땅에 오신 것을 기념하는 날이다. 성탄절을 맞이하여 우리를 구원하시기 위해 그리스도로 오신 예수님의 은혜를 기억하며 감사해야 한다.
